Biosynthetic preparation of the NO-glucosiduronic acid of N-acetyl-N-phenylhydroxylamine.

1. Sodium (N-acetyl-N-phenylhydroxylamine beta-d-glucosid)uronate was isolated from the urine of rabbits receiving N-acetyl-N-phenylhydroxylamine. 2. Its chemical structure was confirmed by the correspondence of the infrared spectrum of its tri-O-acetyl methyl ester derivative with the tri-O-acetyl methyl ester derivative of an authentic specimen prepared by the Koenigs-Knorr synthesis.

Solvent Extraction Spectrophotometric Determination of Vanadium Using Sodium Salt of 2-Mercapto-Pyridine-N-Oxide as a Reagent

A solvent-extraction spectrophotometric technique is proposed as a new method for determination of trace quantities of vanadium. Sodium salt of 2-mercapto-pyridine-N-oxide (thione) forms a complex with vanadium instantaneously. The purple 1:2 complex is formed of pH 2.3, easily extracted in chloroform and shows strong absorbance at 500 nm. The extracted complex is found to obey Beer's law i...

4 Solvent Extraction Equilibria

The ability of a solute (inorganic or organic) to distribute itself between an aqueous solution and an immiscible organic solvent has long been applied to separation and purification of solutes either by extraction into the organic phase, leaving undesirable substances in the aqueous phase; or by extraction of the undesirable substances into the organic phase, leaving the desirable solute in th...

Liquid-Liquid Extraction: Are n Extractions with V/n mL of Solvent Really More Effective Than One Extraction with V mL?

Liquid-liquid extraction is a widespread separation technique with applications in the analytical and the organic chemistry laboratory (13). A problem often tackled in textbooks is the efficiency of several extractions using small portions of solvent in relation to a single extraction with a volume of solvent equal to the sum of the small portions. I t is shown in most textbooks, with the aid o...
